The Committee have decided which shows we will be producing over the coming year, and they are listed below. If you have any questions about joining this year, please email them to freshers@ceciliansociety.co.uk (even if you’re not technically a fresher!)

Weekend Show

The Weekend Show this year will be Back to the 80s! If you would like to take part, simply come along to the QMU on Thursday 23rd September 2010. No auditions are required to be in the chorus; we only hold auditions for principal parts. Here’s a rundown of what happens over the course of the weekend:

Thursday 23rd

7-10pm. Our first rehearsal. Come along, get to know everyone, learn some of the songs and dances, and if you’re feeling brave, go to the group auditions for principal parts!

Friday 24th

7-10pm. Principal parts will be announced, and rehearsals start in earnest.

Saturday 25th

10am-10pm. All day rehearsal. Bring some lunch, but don’t worry, you will get a break!

Sunday 26th

10am-7pm. Second all day rehearsal, and only a few hours of panic before…

7.30pm. Showtime!

If you just wish to come and watch the show, doors open from 7pm on Sunday 26th September 2010, and tickets are available on the door.

Main Show

The Main Show this year will be Our House, and will be performed from Wednesday 23rd to Saturday 26th February 2011 in the Mitchell Theatre. To take part, look out for more info to be posted here, or come along and join us for the Weekend Show!

The AGM will be held on 13/5/2010 at 19:00 within the QMU in committee room 1.

The Cecilian Society’s annual black tie event, celebrating the achievements and remembering the good times experienced by everyone who was involved in some way in the society this year. There will be a three course meal with wine and coffee, during which there will be a few speeches including our guest speaker, Dr Ewan Maclean. After the dinner and speeches there will be a ceilidh.

The dinner dance will be held on Saturday 8th May in the Glasgow University Union’s Debates Chamber at 19:00. The cost of this event will be £25 pp.

As everyone should know by now, the weekend away will be upon us this Friday (see last post for details), are you excited?

YOU SHOULD BE THIS EXCITED!!!!!!

The Annual Cecilian Weekend Away is the biggest and craziest social event of the Cecilian calendar. This year it is being held from Friday 26th (evening) – Sunday 28th March at the Urr Lodge (see website for details), where there will be lots of organised fun, drinking and games.

The price for what is guaranteed to be a fantastic weekend is only £40 (this covers transport, food and lodgings for the weekend) which is payable to Yasmin Galloway social@ceciliansociety.co.uk . There are only 49 spaces available on the bus, so book your place quickly to avoid missing out on great banter.

Congratulations to all those who took part in the wedding singer in any capacity. This post is here to let you know that although the main show is now finished,  the society still has more activities within this academic year.

Auditions

• The last audition rehearsal is on Thursday 8th October at 19:00 in committee room 1 in the QMU.
• The auditions will be on the weekend of 10/11th October in QMU.
• Details of audition procedures will be confirmed at the rehearsal.

Performances
From Wednesday 24th – Saturday 27th February 2010 there will be four evening performances and a Saturday matinee at the Mitchell Theatre. It is considered essential that whomever wishes to partake in the production would be available during show-week; (from 22nd February 2010)-keep those dates free!

Here is a limited schedule for the weekend show (More details will follow at rehearsals) :

Thursday 24th September: 19:00 in committee room 1 in the QMU

• The first evening consists of rehearsals of singing and dance audition piece.
• Tech Crew meet in QMU CR1 at 19:00. (Tech crew will be dealt with by tech manager)
  
• After rehearsals the auditions begin. We recommend that eveyone joins in with the auditions, however if you wish not to audition, the show has an open chorus.
• We will then go to the pub PJ Champs (production sponsors) for socialising.

Friday 25th September: 19:00 in committee room 1 in the QMU

• In the second evening the principle cast is announced and more rehearsals take place.
• Then we go to PJ Champs.

Saturday 26th September: 10:00 in QMU

• A morning start for a day of rehearsals (There will be breaks.)
• Then we go to PJ Champs.

Sunday 27th September: 10:00 QMU

• Another early start for more rehearsals and dress rehearsal. (Again there will be breaks)
  
• At 19:30 the show starts. (QUDOS)
  
• After-show party in QUDOS. (After the get out)
