Notes from Valentine’s Day Runs

Act 1, Scene 1

• Alex, start behind the dancers at the start of “It’s Your Wedding Day” and come through dancers when they split.
• Alex, go back to platform at the start of the first chorus so you’re there when the band all start to sing.
• Chorus, remember to stand up on “Jesse’s Girl”
• Alex, remember to go to the platform before the speech to get the mic and put down the guitar
• Daz, just stay passed out, don’t wake up to clap the bride and groom
• Alex make sure you cut Daz off quickly, there can be no delay
• Alex, remember to go over to the top table and address the couple at the relevant part of your speech, other than that the delivery was better than ever.
• Holly, have two trays when you call Julia over for entrée time, and make sure you don’t rush your dialogue over the music.
• Sam, you need to pause more after “but your eyes…”. You got the timing right yesterday but make sure you’re not too late or early for that cue, listen to what the girls are saying.
• Kirsty, make sure you stand centre stage in “Someday” for the bridal walk.
• Great facial expressions Victoria during “Someday”, and I love the way you apologise to the family after the photograph incident.
• Victoria, make sure you don’t rush “I’ve seen the bridesmaids, we can take them”
• Don’t miss Cara’s line before that one
• Chorus, smile during “Someday”
• Kirsty and Daz, don’t look for each other. Kirsty, move to the front centre towards Robbie and Daz will find you and crash into you. Try to make it happen as close to centre stage as possible.
• Let Daz say “Darold and Hebbie” before clapping after the toast. Also, chorus, make sure that you toast, don’t just clap
• Where have all the waltzing couples gone, there used to be a lot more. I’m sure all the boys took a partner before.
• Kirsty, exit to the bar before “Someday”, not to stage right so that you’re there to see

Act 1 scene 2

• We will make sure that the cables and instruments are on the dance floor at the start of this scene and not on the stage so that you are not too far back
• Alex, let Dom say his line on 'so what?', don’t cut him off. Also it's Schwartz wedding in this scene, not Mcdonough wedding.
Sam don't block Dom when you're going off stage left, put arm round
him from upstage and remember that you exit stage left, not stage right
Dave really funny, especially your reaction to not getting offered a lap dance
• Alex, move away from the guys to sit down on the line “I’ve gotta finish writing this song for my wedding”
• The table will be there. Sit at the chair at the back on use the table to write lyrics on your napkin
Awesome gets funnier every time, maybe more of a pause before
'pancreas' though. Also, watch the timing, I know it will be different when you are playing it on the guitar. Good reactions Kirsty, but make sure your giggling doesn’t get too over the top.
• Kirsty, make sure you don’t sing the line “Floss ’em”
• Make the crazy “Awesome” after the song a lot more cringeworthy
• Make sure that you go to the bar to answer the phone
• Rooney, the car will be side on, please learn your lines and don't go crazy with adlibs if you can't remember them
Act 1 scene 3

• Rachel make sure you watch your projection, maybe put your hand on the other side of your face when whispering to Robbie so you're not projecting away from the audience and make sure that you’re not actually whispering on “Sexual Intercourse”
• Alex be a bit more taken aback when she tries to talk about sex,
maybe jump off bed a bit sooner

Act 1 scene 4

• Alex just walk straight back through midtabs as they open for wedding scene, don't walk around
• Watch the timing of the “Someday (Reprise)” Make sure you are watching Dobie for entries
• Cavey, make sure you are standing behind someone and not in the middle of the aisle
• Linda, make sure you are at the very front of the stage left. It will be more obvious in the theatre when the markings are there
• Everyone freeze during Linda's note, And don't fix your hair when you've stopped headbanging, you are meant to be frozen again
• Cat, feel free to rock out a little more
• Dom maybe be a little less angry and a bit more upset.
• Sam and Alex, don’t giggle when you are frozen
• Sam, face the audience at lot more when you are talking into the microphone.
you don’t constantly have to be turning round to talk to the chorus
Alex, look dreamily in Cat’s direction on “The I is dotted with a broken heart”
• Alex, hyperventilate in panic on “Your Pal” so that Sammy’s line “breath” makes sense

Act 1 scene 5

• The locker room part of “Pop” will be set in front of mid-tabs, whilst the restaurant part will be behind mid-tabs as this scene is going on. Restaurant people make sure you are on behind mid tabs for start of “Pop”, so that as soon as the curtains open we are ready to go, especially Rooney
• Principals and circle watch your spacing
• Obviously we need an easier dress for the quick change but Kirsty try not to scream when you're in the circle
Niall and Laura watch your projection.
• All the dialogue over the music needs to be slowed down
• Rooney, you cannot miss or adlib lines while they are underscored, please look over them
• Chorus at tables, remember to freeze when Kirsty is singing, only the dancers should be moving.
• Kirsty, make sure you don’t get overly excited about the proposal, tone it down a little bit
• Rooney, stand up when the delivery men come in

Act 1 scene 6

Alex we need to work on tempo, it's running away a bit.
• Sam and Dom come on down stage left, this happens in front of mid tabs so just come straight on
• Sam don't rush your lines, slow down a bit more and watch your accent on the word “not”, it sounds really English
• Be frozen on “Note from grandma “and don’t giggle
• Rachel, I love your old lady singing voice.
• We need to practice the dressing, although it was almost perfect. Sam let George do the majority whilst you’re doing the speech

Act 1 scene 7

• Love Esthers fat lady, especially with the sandwich
Kenny try to be a bit quicker with your line so you're cutting Alex off
• Chorus, make sure you react to Robbie threatening Kenny. Some of the guys jump up to help and girls hold them back. Also, react more when Robbie shouts “When my souls been eaten by the Devil”
• Chorus don't watch the principles like your just watching the scene, you're in it so react to what they're saying, gossip about what's going on or just ignore them and carry on with your wedding monging.
• Alex, remember that Melissa is sideburns lady, not Esther and Ronan is loser guy and John Gerard is bad haircut guys when addressing them.
• Alex try not to slow down during the song
• Kirsty, don’t forget to come back at the start of “Casualty of Love” with a glass of water and then move away when you see the craziness that is going on.
• Casualties need to go over their dance, otherwise “Casualty of Love” was hilarious. Also, watch your spacing. You should have plenty of space.
• The fight looked excellent on Sunday, but still make sure that you are listening out for your musical cue.

Act 1 scene 8

• Kirsty, at the end of “Casualty of Love” make sure that you are quite far forward centre stage, almost follow the angry guys with Robbie forward like you’re trying to help him, so that you are in front of the mid-tabs when they come in.
• Kirsty don't go too far on 'cop cars', stop about centre then turn back to dumpster
• Kirsty watch tempo in song, try not to slow down
• Take Alex’s hands for 'will you sing at my wedding' drop them annoyed
when he says no

Act 1 scene 9

• The mid-tabs will open after “Other functions” and go straight into this scene
• Alex, watch the timing of your speech at the start of the scene.
• All band members react to Sammy’s mispronunciation of “La Chaim”
• The clapping during “Today You Are A Man” does not need to be silent as long as it’s in time
• Alex, make sure that you look over your lines going into George’s prayer so that you don’t miss the mood lighting cue line
• Guys watch tempo in song try not to slow down
• Dominic project a bit more
• Sam go over your lines for this scene
• All guys, make sure you pin on your yalmukes.
• Chorus, start dancing a little bit more quickly.
• Robbie and Julia, make sure throughout your dancing you are moving towards the front of the stage so that the chorus is not dancing in front of you.
• Great slap Victoria
• Make sure we don’t lose the line “I’ll meet you outside in 10 mins”
• Robbie and Julia, exit stage right now so that you’re in the right place for your next entrance

Act 1 scene 10

• Your cue to enter this scene will be when it is set up.
• Everyone, make sure that you are watching your projection and speed over music. We are losing a lot of the dialogue. You will be micked, but remember the band will be very loud.
• Try not to run away with the song, principles and chorus
• Victoria, be less high pitched, and slow down a bit on “Ohmigod” we're losing
some of the line
• Chorus should all stop what they are doing and turn and face the front on “Tell the night”. Don’t forget to raise your arm on “Been misaligned”
• Robbie, walk away and look through your bags of shopping whilst the girls are talking about the kissing. Don’t come back over till the girls look at you
• Rooney, you must be quicker on your entrances in this scene as you’re interrupting dialogue. Look over your cue lines. Listen out especially for “Go out with you”
• Great awkward hug Robbie and Julia.

Act 1 Scene 11

• Love the skirt action Victoria
• Don’t forget the gauze Kenny. We will give you a few practices with it in the theatre. Sam remember to look at your watch on 'New York'
• Watch tempo of song
• Clare, don’t forget to be over at the platform in time for “pour me a shot of the brown stuff”
• Kirsty, fall to the back of the table, not the front as we don’t want you to fall off the platform
• Don't rush with underscored dialogue, try not to adlib too much if you forget you lines as time is a factor
• Sam, make more of your storming off as we are missing it. Come over and watch them as soon as the chorus starts.
• Rooney, look over your dialogue
• Victoria, don’t forget to push Lucy off her podium

Act 2 scene 1

• Chorus be paying attention at the start so you don’t miss the “Sell high, buy low”
• Alex, look more uncomfortable with the massaging
• Rooney and Alex remember which are cue lines for the music at the beginning of the scene, so that you're not talking when the chorus are singing
• Sarah, watch your accent on the word “coke”. It’s going really Geordie.
Again watch not to slow down or speed up the song.
• Rooney, look over your words

Act 2 scene 2

• Kirsty, watch the word “specific” it is sounding quite Scottish.
• Kirsty just carry on when you get a line wrong and be confident on your entry into “Someday”
Kirsty, remember to kiss Sam on the cheek before you exit
• Sam don’t put the decorations down straight away, move over to the table front stage left on “Yo, my mom” and put them down then
• Sam, sound a bit more hurt when you storm off, little bit less angry
• Look over the dance boys, it’s almost there, it just needs polished.
Wait till the mid-tabs come in before you exit Victoria

Act 2 scene 3

• 'Material guy' was too ott, don't need to shout it so much
• Julia react more to Grandma talking about her special time
• Alex, you eat MBAs for lunch, not breakfast.

Act 2 scene 4

Peter watch projection, but other than that you are very funny
'Ass' line very funny today
• Sam look over your lines, if in doubt opt for “You’ve gotta snap out of this”
• Alex, stay sitting till the last chorus of “Single” before the rap, you’re not wanting to join in, but are gaining enthusiasm throughout the song.
• Sam, make sure that you interrupt “All About the Green (Reprise)”as you enter. I know today was the first time we’d really run the two scenes together
• Dance, needs tidied up at the end. Look through Amy’s notes
• All guys stay where you are at the end and then, move back to your starting positions when Robbie decides to go and talk to Julia

Act 2 scene 5

Kirsty be a bit more fidgety initially, nervous about how Angie will react, almost as if you don't know whether to say anything
• On the second Guglia could you sound almost as if you've just realised how stupid that name sounds
• Kirsty, make a little more of your acting into the mirror, practice saying your vows, exchanging rings, talking to people in the line-up etc
• Alex, don't watch Kirsty while she's singing her verse
• I liked that Alex and Kirsty both crossed their arms on one of the 'if I told you' lines though Alex possibly kept his arms crossed a bit too long
• Alex don't go too close to Julia's house. The lighting will be split between the two sides of the stage so we will lose you if you do.
• Rooney, please look over your lines for this also reign in the ad-libbing as we're losing a lot of your lines, don't be so silly on 'Hey asswipe' you should be more aggressive at his point. We are losing a lot of your aggression and sleaziness.

Act 2 scene 6

• Cat, we will run over your blocking on Thursday or Sunday.
• We may just leave Robbie’s trousers on to make things easier
• Alex, put your hands on her shoulders on the line 'psycho'
• Guys, wait till you are in Blackout so that you can exit Stage right as that’s where you come back on from.

Act 2, Scene 7

• Chorus, get in positions for Rosie’s Anniversary whilst the seduction is going on behind mid-tabs
• Robbie make sure for “If I Told You” you are centre stage
• Chorus, warm into you ghetto moves as “Move that Thang” goes on. Don’t go full throttle at the start.
• Mr. T and Billy Idol, react with each other to Abe Lincoln’s news as you are thinking that this guy he is talking about may be Glen.

Act 2, Scene 8

• Rooney, look over your lines for this scene and you address him as the wedding singer not Monkey boy.
• Celebrities, make sure that you say one, two three Hasslehoff, not just Hasslehoff.
• Robbie, pass your guitar to Mr. T on duet bit when orchestra kicks in.
• Julia, don’t move towards Robbie until “I’ll give you medicine”. Be thinking about it, but not wanting to hurt Glen

Finale

• George and Sammy, don’t start on at the start any more. Come on during the running man part of the music like you’re gossiping about the wedding.
• Victoria, do Proud Mary Tina Turner style dance with Tina whilst you are singing with her.
• Make sure you move out of the way of the other people coming down the aisle.
• Dave, watch the timing of your line.
• Kirsty and Alex, don’t forget “I do”s
